KARACHI: Seven cameras installed

KARACHI, Sept 15: An effective “close-circuit traffic monitoring system” has been enforced in Karachi to control the flow of traffic in Karachi, and to keep an eye on criminal activities committed through vehicles.

Computerized high-speed dom camera’s are being installed with pen tilt and zooming functioning throughout Karachi, and as a first step, and a monitoring room has also been established at the SSP (Zone-III) office.

Seven camera’s have been installed at the PIDC Chowk, Rex Foundation Chowk, Sindh Club/Metropole Chowk, Hoshing Chowk (near Clifton Bridge), Mehran Hotel Chowk, Taj Mahal Chowk and Avari Tower Chowk while seven other cameras will be installed at various places — one at Shah Faisal Colony bridge, two at Star Gate roads, three at main Jinnah terminal and one at the Jinnah terminal. All these cameras would be operative within a few days.

This was stated by IGP Syed Kamal Shah in a briefing to Governor Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar at a local hotel in Karachi.

It was informed that the system will be operative round-the-clock, which are under zone tracking camera, with a computerized hard disk.

It was informed that 100 cameras will be installed throughout Karachi, possessing recording system of 40-days which can be enhanced for 100-days’ recording.

The Sindh governor and the chief minister stressed the need for improving the security system in the Karachi and traffic monitoring system be introduced in Hyderabad, Sukkur and other big cities of province.

With reference to the IGP’s demand for required funds, the chief minister Ali Mohammad Mahar said that funds required for the enforcement of the system will be released by the finance department.

The IGP Sindh said no extra budget is required for the system and the police department had already deposited an amount of more than 13 crore of rupees.

The Governor and the chief minister were shown entire camera control, traffic vigilance flow system during the briefing.

The briefing was also attended by Advisor to Chief Minister for Information Salahuddin Hyder, Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Mutawakal Kazi and officers of the police department.—PPI
