KARACHI, Sept 12: An anti-terrorism court, on Friday, reserved its order on an application of the defence for summoning President Musharraf and four others as witnesses in the conspiracy case pertaining to assassinate the President in April last year.

Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the ATC-1, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison, fixed Sept 13 for pronouncement of order on the application of Abdul Wahid.

The chief of banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Aalmi, Muhammed Imran, deputy chief Muhammed Hanif, finance secretary Muhammed Ashraf, and workers Waseem Akhtar and Sharib, have been charged with hatching a conspiracy to blow up the President’s motorcade on Sharea Faisal within the jurisdiction of Airport police.

Special public prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti opposed the application.

It was alleged that accused Imran, Hanif and Waseem Akhtar had admitted to have made an abortive attempt on the life of the President in April 2002.

According to the prosecution, the Aalmi leaders during interrogation had revealed that they wanted to kill President Musharraf for his anti-Taliban and pro-US policies.

The Aalmi chief and his deputy were earlier sentenced to death on April 14 and two other party workers, including Sharib, to life terms by the same ATC for killing 12 people and injuring 43 others in a car bomb attack on the US consulate last year.
