ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the bail application of a woman smuggler, who was awarded eight years imprisonment and fined Rs50,000 fine by a trial court.
The Lahore High Court had also rejected her bail application.
The Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Shaikh Riaz Ahmad, Justice Qazi Mohammad Farooq and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, upheld the verdict of the LHC, Rawalpindi Bench.
Advocate Razzak A. Nazir, counsel for the appellant, Nafeesa Akhtar, contended that his client was innocent and that her case was politically motivated as she had contested provincial elections on PML-N ticket.
He contended that her father Khawaja Ayub was also a political personality and had been contesting elections.—APP
