KARACHI, Sept 7: President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain has said that Punjab has rendered sacrifice on the prestigious slot of prime minister with an aim of maintaining provincial harmony as well as ensuring prosperity of the motherland.

He was responding to newsmen’s queries during his visit to the ‘Nine-Zero’, the headquarters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), in Azizabad here on Sunday. He held parlays with members of the MQM’s adhoc committee.

Developing a water reservoir is a small issue as we are committed to offer any price for maintaining integrity of the country and making its defence impregnable, he said.

Replying to a question about the agenda of his talks with Muttahida leaders, he said there was no specific agenda and that it was just a courtesy call. I am in the port city after a long gap, he added.

“However, issues of provincial autonomy and water also came under discussion as we sincerely believe that all problems should be solved amicably instead of raising unnecessary hue and cry.

“Redressing water problem is the core issue ... whether it is solved through the construction of either kind of dam ... we truly believe in an early solution to this major problem.”

In reply to another question, he said that in Sindh, the PML-Q had constituted a reorganizing committee while the Muttahida had done the same for its own reorganization.

NEW LEADERSHIP: Chief of the PML-Q Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain has said that Pakistan needs a new leadership as the previous leaders had disappointed the countrymen.

He was speaking at a public meeting organized by Pakistan Meo Ittehad at its central office here on Sunday.

Mr Hussain said that he was working to bring in a new leadership in the country and induct fresh blood into the party.

He said that old leadership had created chaos in the country by indulging in corruption and malpractices.

Criticizing PPP for creating a fuss over Kalabagh Dam, the PML-Q president claimed that the PPP had allocated fund from the national budget for Kalabagh Dam. Now when they are out of power, they are making this an issue for their political game, he added.

He said that the dam should be built as the country desperately needed water for agriculture, power generation and other purposes.

He pointed out that he had asked his younger brother, Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, to support Sindh on the issue of water distribution.

“I want to promote brotherhood and love in the country as it has suffered a lot due to tussles and differences of the pasts,” said Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain.

Convener of the PML-Q organizing committee Senator Nisar Memon, Capt (r) Haleem Siddiqui and Major (r) Mustajab were also present on the occasion.—PPI/APP
