KARACHI, Sept 2: A journalist working for a local Urdu daily was shot dead in Eidgah area on Tuesday.

A duty officer of the police station concerned said that two young men had come to the house of Mohammad Akbar, 40, at City government quarters, located in the premises of Khaliqdina Hall at the M A Jinnah Road and called him.

As Akbar came out of the house, they shot him in the head and escaped.

The injured was brought to the nearby Civil Hospital in critical condition, where he was operated upon in Surgical-I, the hospital sources said.

Later, he was shifted to the Surgical ICU, however, he died on Tuesday night.

DSP Investigation, Gul Hameed Samoo, told Dawn that the police were investigating the case from every possible aspect.

However, he said that the police did not find any empty from the spot, and added that the suspects might have used a silence- fitted pistol.

Soon after the incident, SSP (Investigation) Manzoor Mughal rushed to the spot and later reached the hospital.

Sources said that Mohammad Akbar was presently working as a chief reporter in a local Urdu daily.

SHOT DEAD: Body of an unidentified young man, in his mid 20s, was found in Korangi on Tuesday.

Police said that body, clad in trousers and shirt, was found near the office of Coast Guards in sector 49-A, Korangi.

The victim had been shot in the eye from close range, the police said.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the post-mortem examination.

Later it was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification, the police added.

KILLED: Body of an elderly man was recovered from his house at Chand Bibi Road on Tuesday.

Police said that Mohammad Siddiq, 70, alias Siddiq Bawarchi- was found dead in his house in Chand Bibi Centre.

The police said that victim’s trussed up body was found in the house by his employees who had gone to wake him up.

A piece of cloth was also found stuffed in the victim’s mouth.

The police shifted the body to the nearby Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road traffic accident in Lyari on Tuesday.

Police said that Shahid, 25, was standing at bus stop when a speeding bus of route 1-H ran over the pavement seriously injuring him.

He was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
