The function was organized by the Jeay Sindh Mahaz and was attended by a large number of people.
Paying tribute to G.M. Syed, former Sindh Assembly speaker Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah said he had devoted his life for the cause of Sindh.
He also called upon the people to unite on one platform to launch a struggle for the rights of the province, including its water share.
He said in the name of the district government system all the powers were usurped by the Centre. He said assemblies had lost their status.
In his presidential speech, Syed Zain Shah said followers of the late Syed were struggling to fulfil his dreams.
Noted scholar and writer Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo said G. M. Syed had fought for the rights of Sindh even before the creation of Pakistan.
He demanded that the federal government should hold a dialogue with Sindh on all issues, including water, employment and financial resources.
He said President Gen Pervez Musharraf could not be trusted as, according to him, he had not honoured his commitments.
Sindh National Council leader Dr Dodo Mehri said whenever the late Syed spoke the truth and raised the Sindh’s issues he was branded as a traitor.
JSM general-secretary Rasool Bux Thebo, Sufi Huzoor Bux, Jam Saqi, Riaz Chandio, Ayub Shar, Syed Asghar Ali Shah, Maula Bux Laghari, Aijaz Memon and others also spoke on the occasion.
The other resolutions adopted at Jashn-i-Syed demanded that local people should be given employment in multinational oil and gas companies, the NFC Award be announced on the basis of the income of each province and security forces deployed in Sindh to control the law and order be sent back.
Expressing concern over the devastation in Badin due to the Left Bank Outfall Drain, the gathering demanded adequate compensation for the affected people.
