ISLAMABAD, July 12: The federal government on Friday relieved Dr Azhar Mehmood Qureshi of his post as the executive director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

The Fauji Foundation Hospital managing director, Dr Fazle Hadi, has taken the charge of Pims executive director.

Sources told this agency that an inquiry has also been ordered against alleged irregularities committed by Dr Azhar during his tenure.

Meanwhile, the federal health secretary, Ijaz Rahim, has cancelled the ex-Pakistan leave of Pims joint executive director, Dr Asif Mehmood, asking him to rejoin duty and face the probe.

There are several complaints against both the officials regarding their alleged involvement in mismanagement and massive irregularities.

The sources said Dr Azhar was posted as executive director directly from the position of a clinician and he had no previous experience, training or qualification in hospital management.

Initially, his name was not included in the list of three persons considered eligible for the slot, however, he allegedly mobilized his political association and got the prized position, they added.—PPI
