LAHORE, July 7: The Asian Development Bank will give $90 million to the provincial government for the Southern Punjab Basic Urban Services Project.

The project aims at laying a basic infrastructure in Khanewal, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Bahawalpur and its 22 tehsils.

The project will be completed in six years, and about 40 per cent of the budget will be spent on the development of katchi abadis in these districts.

Under the project, sewerage and drainage systems, repairs and maintenance of roads, streetlights and supply of clean water will be made available to the people.

Katchi Abadis Director-General and Urban Improvement Additional-Director Rashid Mahmood said a survey on this scheme had been completed, and work on the project would begin next year.

According to the survey report, these areas have no proper facilities, including clean water and sewerage and drainage systems.
