The TMA (City) has awarded contracts for widening of roads to the National Logistic Cell and other private contractors. Recently, the old trees were removed from the boundary walls of the Police Lines and PTCL offices, which had nothing to do with the expansion of roads.
The trees which have been providing shelter to the public from scorching heat and pollution become victim to the poor planning. Removal of these trees will not only give rise to some additional pollution in the city but will also drive away a variety of birds.
The TMA contractor has reportedly planned to construct footpaths at places from where the trees have been removed. However, these trees could be adjusted in the footpaths with proper planning.
Under the pretext of widening of Katchery Road, Police Lines Road and other roads, the TMA contractors have ruthlessly uprooted the trees, depriving the city of a precious treasure.
The irony of the fate is that not a single NGO has raised its voice against the TMA authority for depriving the city of trees.
