MITHI, Oct 11: The Nazim, taluka council, Mithi, Faqir Sher M Bilalani, reinstated six sanitary workers, whose services were terminated by the Nazim of union council Mithi on Sept 17.

In an order issued on Thursday, the taluka council Nazim has mentioned that under section 5, 180(c) and 182(2) of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001, the Taluka municipal administration was the legal successor of all functionaries of the town committee, Mithi.

Hence, the Nazim of union council Mithi had no power to interfere in the functions/powers of the Taluka council.

EDUCATION: Whatever claims the education department may make for devising policies or for providing the required facilities for improving the standard of education in Thar, the reality on the ground is contrary to their tall claims.

When this correspondent visited the primary school at Noor Muhammad Bajir Colony, Mithi town, on Thursday, he was astounded to witness that 110 pupils, half of whom were girls, were being educated under a tree and in some thatched huts sans furniture, electricity, and water.

Some of the students said that they sometimes even saw snakes in their school.

Qita, a student of Class IV, recalled that she had been bitten by a scorpion two years back when it fell from a thatched roof upon her head.
