THATTA: Condolence meeting

THATTA, July 1: A condolence meeting was held in Mirpur Bathoro on Tuesday to pay tribute to local academician, poet and expert of Sindhi folk music, Syed Akbar, who had died of hepatitis-c last week.

Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Hussain Rangrez said that as general secretary of the Primary Teachers Association, Sindh, Mr Akbar strived hard for the promotion of education.

He said that Mr Akbar also took part in the nationalist politics of Sindh and was forced to leave his area for raising voice for the rights of the province.

Comrade Sher Khan Lund told the audience that Mr Akbar had the command over Sindhi folk music and often taught local vocalists and musicians how to master playing of Yaktara, Tabla and Tamboora .

Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr Dilawar Memon and Qasim Pathar.
