KARACHI, July 1: Three more town administrations — Shah Faisal, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Bin Qasim — have announced their budgets for the fiscal 2003-04.
Shah Faisal Town has prepared a balanced budget of over Rs 157 million, allocating Rs 57m for development works and Rs88m under the head of non-developmental expenditure.
According to budgetary proposals, over Rs50m (35 per cent) will be spent under the head of establishment, Rs29m (20 pc) have been allocated for contingencies and Rs8m (six per cent) for repairs and maintenance.
The town’s sources of income include its share of Rs108m from the city government under the head of matching grant, share from property tax (Rs17m), deposit works/securities (Rs10m), outstanding dues/share (Rs18m) and over Rs2m from its own sources.
The salient features of the Town’s development works and the amount allocated for the purpose are: Storm-water drains (Rs5m), improvement of water and sewerage lines (Rs2m), roads and footpaths (Rs21m), construction/improvement of buildings (Rs7m), privatization of solid waste (Rs3m), street lights (Rs2m), parks and playgrounds (Rs4m), on-going development works (Rs2.3m).
GULSHAN-I-IQBAL: A Rs640 million budget of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town for the year 2003-04 was presented in its council.
Unfolding details of the budget, the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town’s Nazim, Abdul Wahab, said that Town will receive Rs150m under the head of matching grant from the city government, share from property and betterment tax (Rs180m) while the town’s income through its own resources is estimated at Rs310m.
The town’s budget documents show that a considerable amount of Rs390m have been earmarked for various development works.
The allocations made for different heads are: Salary and other perks (Rs140m), contingencies (Rs90m), maintenance and repairs (Rs10m).
The town council’s budget session was presided over by Naib Nazim, Salim Azhar and it was attended by Town’s municipal officer, Matanat Ali Khan and other senior officials.
BIN QASIM: A Rs625.6 million budget of Bin Qasim Town for the fiscal 2003-04 was presented in its council.
Highlighting salient features of the budget, the Town’s Nazim, Ashiq Ali Jamote, said the town during 2003-04 will spend Rs300m on development works which include Rs60m for the ongoing upliftment plans and another Rs60m for those development works which would be undertaken in coordination with citizens community boards.
The allocations made for different development works include improvement of water and sewerage lines for which Rs80m have been earmarked; construction/repairs of roads (Rs30m), provision of street-lights, parks and playgrounds and maintenance of graveyards (Rs40m) and for social welfare-oriented projects and sports (Rs10m).
The Town Nazim on this occasion demanded of the city government to immediately make the payments of the town’s outstanding share from matching grant for the year 2001-02 and 2002-03 so that development projects could be expedited.
The town’s budget session was held under the chairmanship of its convener Tariq Aziz Baloch. The town’s municipal officer Masroor Ahmed Memon was also present.
