KARACHI, June 30: The Pakistan Peoples Party has demanded stern action against the factories involved in contaminating potable water.
In a statement, the PPP leaders, including its Karachi division President Haji Muzaffar Ali Shujra and General Secretary Habiibuddin Junadi, demanded immediate closure of tanneries and other factories, located in the industrial areas of Landhi and Korangi, which were allegedly releasing chemical waste in an open nullah.
Claiming that the polluted water was a threat to the lives of innocent people, the leaders demanded that all such factories which were functioning without treatment plants be immediately closed.
SWT: The chairperson of the Shahida Welfare Trust, Shahida Farooq, has expressed deep grief over the loss of human lives by drinking contaminated water and held the City Government and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board responsible for this tragedy, which affected a large number of other people also.
In a statement, she said dilapidated water and sewage pipes were one of the major causes of water contamination, as a result of which water and sewage get mixed. She said most areas in Karachi the people had no other option but to use sub-soil water. — PPI
