KARACHI, June 28: Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation, Rauf Siddiqi, has asked the owners of vehicles being used on “open letter” to get the ownership registered in their own names.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the minister pointed out that despite repeated warnings thousands of vehicles were still running on open-sale letter which was a moral and legal offence.
He said that owners sold their vehicles on the open-sale letters to others while the official record contained the name of previous registered owners, and in case of use of such vehicles in crimes, the owners originally registered in the record had to face problems.
He said the sellers of vehicles should essentially obtain a delivery letter from the buyers at the time of sale and convey the information to the department concerned immediately.
NEW NUMBER PLATES: : The minister also said the vehicles of five-year-old model would be issued a new number plates from the regular series, if a number plate was lost or stolen. He said the secretary excise and taxation had been directed to immediately issue directives to all the officers concerned for implementing the revised scheme.
The minister said that such vehicles would be given registration numbers from the new series, instead of the specified series.—APP
