FPCCI receives 85 budget anomalies

KARACHI, June 28: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry has received around 85 anomalies relating to sales tax, customs duties and income tax in the budget 2003-04.

The FPCCI conveyed a meeting on Saturday to find out anomalies in the budget so that it could be submitted to the finance secretary, who is head of the anomaly committee formed by the finance minister. The meeting attended by representatives of various industries and associations was presided over by FPCCI vice-president Shaikh Maqbool Ahmed, who is representative of the federation in the anomaly committee.

An FPCCI official told Dawn that around 40 customs-related anomalies belonging to various industrial sectors had been found.

Similarly in the sales tax, around 15-20 cases of anomalies have been identified in various sectors. Prominent of them include SRO 507(I), 2003, on which the industrialists demanded its complete withdrawal in the meeting. In the income tax, the FPCCI has received 25 cases of anomalies.
