KARACHI, Dec 15: The 40th Annual General Meeting of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) that was adjourned three times earlier due to stay order of Sindh High Court, finally held here on Saturday to induct the newly elected office-bearers.

The chamber management was working under an Ad hoc Committee which now stood dissolved as the AGM inducted the newly office bearers with A.Q.Khalil as president, Iftikhar Ghani Vohra as senior vice-president and Ashraf Abdul Sattar as vice-president. Haroon Farooki’s result was also officially declared who had been elected unopposed as member managing committee from Town Association, Representative of SITE Association but was not declared elected due to stay order against the elections of representatives of town Associations.

Although the main petition is still pending before the court but the Supreme Court in an appeal from the KCCI, allowed the Chamber to complete its normal proceedings as the High Court’s stay was not against the normal working of the Chamber.

According to a spokesman of the KCCI, the elections of the town association’s representatives were held according to the election schedule given by the court and Haroon Farooki was elected before the issuance of the second stay order from the Sindh High Court to shahid Ismail, representative of Federal B. Area Traders Association.

The AGM and official declaration of Mr Haroon was not made under the impression that the court had stayed it but after the clarification conveyed by the Chamber’s counsel, the remaining formalities were completed, he said.

The AGM was presided over by the former President Amjad Rafi and after formal election of the office-bearers, newly elected President A. Q. Khalil presided over the meeting.—APP
