Rs29.79m earmarked for museums

ISLAMABAD, June 23: An amount of Rs29.790 million have been allocated for the new and on-going projects of museums under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of Budget 2003-04.

For acquisition of land for National Museum of Pakistan in Islamabad, an amount of Rs2.633 million has been earmarked with whereas the estimated cost was Rs35 million.

For the ongoing project of National Museum of Ethnology in Islamabad, Rs24.959 million have been allocated. However, the estimated cost was Rs65.2 million and the cumulative expenditure in June 2003 was Rs40.2 million.

A new museum will be established in Quetta for which about Rs1 million has been allocated.

For the ongoing project of establishment of ‘Museum Education Services’ in National Museum of Karachi, an amount of Rs0.4 million has been allocated.

As mush as Rs5 million has been allocated for the preservation and restoration of the Harrapa excavations and development of museum.

For the conservation of Umerkot Fort and development of museum, Rs0.798 million has been earmarked.—APP
