KARACHI: Power failures continue

KARACHI, June 20: Power breakdowns continued to occur on Friday as Karachi Electric Supply Corporation did little to fix faults.

A resident of Orangi Town (Sector 11) said lately there had been many power breakdowns in his locality.

Stressing that in his area residents mainly have regular power connections, he said on Thursday they had lost their power supply around 7.30 in the morning.

“The electricity supply was restored about four in the afternoon. We had another spell of a two-hour-long power breakdown shortly afterwards.”

The resident recalled that such erratic power cuts had been occurring for the past five days.

“Our locality suffered a daylong power breakdown on Wednesday which caused a large number of people to go to the regional complaint centre to lodge their complaint. Since Monday, we have been experiencing one power cut in the evening and one at night. Water to our locality comes at night, which is why we have also been facing a water shortage,” he regretted.

Calling from Gulistan-i-Jauhar, a resident that of late two power breakdowns occurred in his locality on a daily basis: one in the afternoon and the other at night.

Calling from Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 5, a resident said his locality had been without 4.30pm. “How long will it take for the KESC to fix the fault?” he wondered.

A resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 4-A, said his locality had been without electricity for the whole night. “The power supply was resumed in the early hours of Friday. In the afternoon — around 4.30 pm — we had another power breakdown which is still on, around 8.30pm.
