SUKKUR, June 20: More than 300 people, arrested during the recent anti-bandit operation on the Sindh-Balochistan border, are still in the custody of the Jacobabad police.

Eighteen arrested people have been handed over to the Balochistan police. They include Abdul Hameed alias Vash Sundrani, Nawaz alias Babul, Khawand Bukhsh Sundrani, Lal Khan Mari, Mohammad Ramzan, Gul Hassan, Abdul Nabi, Khadim Hussain, Sharif Ahmed, Gul Khan Ramezai Bugti, Jamshed alias Bhuro, Gulab Bugti, Abdul Hameed Kandrani, Abdul Aziz and Mohammad Rahim.

Sources in the Jacobabad police said that investigation against the arrested persons was underway and those found innocent would be released.

Official sources claimed that the police had bulldozed only those houses which were used for criminal activities.

The DPO, Jacobabad, Din Mohammad Baloch, told this correspondent that the police were preparing a strategy to launch an operation against the Chakrani Bugtis, who, according to him, were involved in heinous criminal activities in Sindh and Balochistan.

ROBBERY: Seven highwaymen in police uniform looted a dozen passengers and hijacked a wagon (1554) near Ghotki on Friday.

The robbers boarded the wagon in Ghotki and after it reached near Imam Petrol Pump, they overpowered the driver at gun point, deprived the passengers of cash, watches and gold rings and hijacked the wagon.

ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist was killed and 15 bus passengers were injured in a road accident on Moro bypass on Friday.

When a bus (AJK-4533) coming from Muzaffarabad and on way to Karachi, reached on the bypass, it collided with a motorcycle and subsequently overturned.

As a result, motorcyclist, Jeewan Laghari, resident of Ahmed Khan Laghari village, died on the spot and 15 bus passengers — including Rauf, Nasir Baloch, Amin Arain, Tariq Arain, Nasrullah Gondal, Farooq Gondal, Ali Asghar Shah, Mushtaq Awan, Rano Darvesh and Ms Farah — were injured.

Those injured were admitted to a Moro Hospital where some of them were said to be in serious condition.

BANDIT KILLED: An alleged bandit was killed in an exchange of firing between inmates of a house and unidentified bandits in a Moro village on early Friday morning.

Four armed dacoits barged into the house of Rasool Bukhsh in Kot Mari village as its inmates were sleeping.

Some members of the family woke up and an exchange of firing took place between them and the bandits in which Ali Bux Burdi was killed but his accomplices fled.
