KARACHI, June 19: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi has asked all the DCOs in districts and City District Government to ensure that CNG conversion work is carried out only by authorized licensed CNG stations.

He directed that action be taken against all those unauthorized persons who are carrying CNG conversion and have set up their business on roadsides without permission.

In a communication to DCOs he said, a reference has been made to a directive of cabinet division which states that Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is regulating the CNG/LPG activities under OGRA Ordinance 2002 throughout the country so that security of life and property of the people is ensured.

It has come to the knowledge of OGRA that certain unauthorized persons/roadside workshops who are involved in CNG conversion business under the cover of their improper expertise and non-technical skill are harmful not only for vehicles and their owners but also dangerous for the life of people and CNG stations.

The Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources, too, has requested that strict action be taken.

It has been reminded that use of LPG as a fuel is not only harmful but its use in autos is also banned under Liquid Petroleum Gas (Production and Distribution), Rules 2000.

The chief secretary has directed the DCOs to initiate action against CNG conversion business unauthorizedly and without licence and also illegal use of LPG under the prescribed rules and regulations.—APP
