KARACHI, Dec 14: The Sindh National Front welcomed the removal of SPs from the Punjab police posted in Sindh.
SNF chairman Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto asked who was going to compensate the people of Sindh for the humiliation and victimisation they suffered at the hands of the Punjabi SPs while they were posted here.
Demanding that the Sindh government appoint a commission to investigate their crimes, compensate the victims and punish the culprits with dismissal from service and criminal prosecution.
Mr Bhutto, in statement, recalled that right in the beginning he had brought to the knowledge of the Sindh governor that the posting of the Punjabi SPs, particularly in the rural Sindh, would cause serious harm as these officers would have no commitment with the soil and the people; they would have no knowledge of the area and the structure of the community in their jurisdiction.
He said all this had turned out to be true, but the legacy of their misconduct still remained.
Giving example, he said that previous SP Khairpur, Muhammad Ayoob Qureshi, in connivance with the previous SP Larkana, Shahid Iqbal, and SP Sanghar, Shahid hanif Ramay, had arrested 8 people from village Manzil Gah, Taluka Ratodero, and shunted them off to various jails in Sanghar, Larkano and Khairpur. In fact, he said, no offence had been committed and it was a pure act of vindictiveness and victimisation; to this day the eight innocent people languished in jail.
He said the new officers, who had taken over, had held enquiries and the fact had been confirmed that those 8 persons had been implicated in false cases.
Similarly, Mr Bhutto said, many other crimes against the people were committed by the Punjabi SPs, and remained unredressed.
