MIRPURKHAS, June 17: Serious differences have developed between the director of Nara Canal, Area Water Board, Agha Aijaz, and the office-bearers of the Farmers’ Organization over the posting of the SDO, irrigation, Sindhri sub-division, Ghulam Mustafa Ujjan.
It was learnt that about a month back the director had issued verbal orders of the transfer of the SDO over which Farmers’ Organization office-bearers had raised objection, demanding the director to cancel the transfer.
The SDO was transferred despite a ban on transfers and postings by the Sindh government.
The office bearers of the Farmers’ Organization held a meeting with the director, Nara Canal. The latter promised the office bearers that he would recall the SDO back on the same post after two weeks.
However, sources claimed, Mr Agha addressed a letter to the Sindh chief minister, requesting that the SDO be posted in his office. The chief minister granted him permission.
In another meeting, the director accused four SDOs and an XEN of mismanagement as a result of which an argument started between him and Farmers’ Organization office bearers.
The Farmers’ Organization recently held a meeting and demanded that if the director and the chairman, Area Water Board, Khair Mohammad Bhurgari, were not transferred, the office bearers of the Farmers’ Organization would hold protest demonstrations. Sarfaraz Junejo presided over the meeting of the Farmers’ Organization.
The Farmers’ Organization demanded that the government replace the director as well as the chairman, Area Water Board, and hold elections for the post of chairman, Nara Canal.
The meeting accused the director of mismanagement of water distribution over monetary considerations and victimizing the office bearers of the Farmers’ Organization as they were not supplied water according to their share.
