PESHAWAR, June 12: A two-member bench of the PHC asked the NWFP government to give comments on a writ petition filed by 20 police inspectors, challenging the appointment and promotion policy of the police department, here on Thursday.

The bench comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan directed NWFP home secretary to file comments before the next hearing. The secretary had not filed any comments despite various notices by the court.

The petitioners claimed that they were senior most inspectors serving as acting deputy superintendents of police. They added that they were entitled to be promoted to the rank of DSP, but had been ignored by the provincial government.

The petitioners said that under the Police Order, 2002 the pro-motion to the next rank could only be done on the recommendation of the promotion committee headed by the additional inspector general of police.
