HYDERABAD, June 12: Seven bogies of a goods train filled with oil derailed near the Kotri railway station at 4:30am on Thursday. Two of the bogies overturned.

The train (KS-10 UP) was coming from Karachi to Sher Shah.

No loss of life was reported but the two overturned bogies were damaged and oil valued at thousands of rupees spilled out of tankers. The railway track was destroyed.

Traffic on single line was restored after one hour of the incident. The track was cleared at 4pm.

The cause of the mishap is said to be an operational fault. However, there were also reports that wooden sleepers of the railway track had outlived their life as a result the track became weak. The railway authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Divisional mechanical engineers Atta Memon and Mohammad Yaqoob Channa, divisional signal engineer Mehmoodul Hassan and other railway officials reached the spot and were conducting initial inquiry and supervising the repair work.—Bureau
