KARACHI, Oct 16: Various parts of the city went without water on Tuesday due to a 24-hour shutoff resorted to by the KWSB to install valves in the 48-inch dia Federal Trunk Main.
The localities which remained dry on Tuesday included Shershah, Baldia, Mauripur, Grex Village, Manghopir Colony, Liaquatabad, the entire Federal B- Area, Nazimabad, SITE, Manora, the Marine Academy, the PAF Masroor, KANUPP (plant and residential colony both), naval installations and the nearby localities.
A spokesman for the KWSB said work of affixing air and scour valves in the 48-inch dia federal trunk main, which began on Tuesday morning, had been progressing satisfactorily, and normal water supply to all affected localities would resume on Wednesday morning.
Taking undue advantageof the situation, private water tankers did a roaring busi-ness on Tuesday, charging Rs400-Rs500 a tanker from residents of the water- starved localities.
SHORTAGE: Complaints of an acute shortage of water from other parts of the city also continued to pour in newspaper offices.
