The total estimated cost of 44 different projects in this sector is Rs25.5 billion, out of which Rs13.59 billion have already been utilized.
The allocations include Rs2.1 billion for the national programme for family planning and primary healthcare.
Similarly, Rs400 million have been earmarked for the expanded programme of immunization (EPI). The total cost of the project is Rs5.36 billion.
For the HIV/AIDs control programme, the allocation is Rs175 million, of which Rs160 million is foreign assistance and Rs15 million local funding. The total cost of the project is Rs2.8 billion.
The women health project during the year 2003-04 will get Rs255, of which Rs220 million is foreign funding and Rs35 million local contribution.
About seven new projects under the PSDP have also been initiated, including a liver transplant facility at SIUT, Karachi, for which Rs400 million have been allocated. The total cost of the project is Rs600 million.
For a similar facility at Lahore, Rs200 million have been earmarked. The project is to cost Rs400 million.
Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital Complex Bannu is to receive Rs50 million. In order to upgrade patient treatment facilities at the department of nephrology, JPMC, Karachi, a sum of Rs5 million has been allocated.
A sum of Rs5 million has been set aside for the prevention of Hepatitis B and C. The total project cost is Rs100 million.
Other projects and the money allocated for them are: establishment of 200-bedded hospital, D.I. Khan, Rs56 million, national tuberculosis control programme, Rs19 million, upgradation of patient treatment department of dentistry, JPMC Karachi, Rs2 million, integrated mental health, Rs5 million, construction of two ICUs in Liaquat Medical College Jamshoro, Rs30 million, provision of 1000 KVA/800 KW generating set near sub-stations B&D at JPMC, Karachi, Rs19.8 million, extension of federal medical centre into hospital at central government servant’s colony, Quetta, Rs6 million, upgradation of wards and equipment, JPMC Karachi.
