Acid-attack Suspect still at large

BAHAWALPUR, June 7: Police have not yet arrested the landlord who allegedly threw acid on a woman last week.

Ms Zahooran, a mother of three, was attacked on her refusal to develop illicit relations with the alleged accused, Shafiq, of Chak 46-A near Liaquatpur.

According to doctors at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, she sustained 45 per cent burns and lost her eyesight. Doctors said she was still in a precarious condition.

According to the victim’s husband Allah Bakhsh and uncle Hazoor Bakhsh, they were poor. Liaquatpur police registered a case but were using delaying tactics to arrest the accused.

They stated that the accused’s brother was taken into custody but later he was too released.

KILLERS HELD: Musafir Khana police arrested two people, including Nazim Akhtar Abbasi, on the murder charge.

They were arrested for killing one Hazoor Bakhsh whose body was recovered from a nearby well the other day. Police registered a case against union council Nazim Akhtar Abbasi, Abdul Rashid, Sardar Muhammad Khan and Arshad.

APCA: The Civil Lines police arrested six office-bearers of Bahawalpur APCA for threatening irrigation SE and rioting in his office.

Those arrested are; APCA vice-president Zahid Husain, clerks Azhar Mahmood, Yousaf Tareen, Abdul Rashid, Akram Shoaib of forest department and irrigation department Sub-Engineer Matloob Husain.

Meanwhile, the Bahawalpur district and sessions judge granted bail before arrest to four APCA office-bearers till June 17. They are; divisional president Fakharur Rehman, general secretary Hafiz Akhtar Rana, office secretary Hafiz Mushtaq and finance secretary Raufur Rehman.
