PESHAWAR, June 7: A committee of the NWFP Assembly on Saturday adjourned proceedings against two district Nazims facing corruption charges for a week.
The seven-member special committee, led by Khalid Waqar Chamkani, started hearing against Bannu Nazim Malik Iqbal and Kohistan Nazim Maulana Ubaidullah at the assembly secretariat.
The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government had tabled motions against them in the provincial assembly on June 3 under Section 23 of the Local Government Ordinance, 2001, accusing them of corruption and misuse of power.
Mr Iqbal informed the committee that he was not ready to present his case as he had received the charge sheet late. He requested the committee to postpone the hearing for a week.
Maulana Ubaidullah also sought more time to prepare his case. The committee accepted their plea.
The committee directed Mr Iqbal to present his case on June 14. Maulana Ubaidullah is due to appear on June 17.
UC NAZIMS: Nazims of 23 union councils of Kohistan on Saturday accused the district Nazim of embezzlement in development funds and demanded that the provincial government should take legal action against him.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, they alleged that Maulana Ubaidullah had misappropriated funds and misused his powers. Bakhat Biland led the union council Nazims.
