KARACHI, June 5: Town Nazim Liaquatabad Dr. Pervez Mehmood has decided to move higher courts against the alleged interference of the provincial government in the affairs of the city government and deliberate attempts to cripple the city government.
Dr. Pervez Mehmood, in a press statement on Thursday, alleged that the provincial government was using delaying tactics in the devolution of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, Karachi Building Control Authority, police and various other departments which were to be under the control of the city government according to new local government system.
He said provincial ministers by giving statements over water shortage, load-shedding, sewerage problems and such other issues were trying to give an expression that the city government had failed to fulfil its responsibilities while actually these departments are under the control of the provincial government.
The Nazim alleged that the City Nazim and the relevant Town Nazims are not being consulted in transfers and posting of police officers and in the city government such officers have been posted who are creating hindrances in issues of city government and towns and using delaying tactics in the release of funds to towns and everything is allegedly being done on the directives of provincial ministers.—PPI
