LAHORE, Dec 12: Aided by three goals, each by Omar Minhas and Malik Asif Yar Tiwana, Merry Max defeated Guard Filter by eight goals to 8-2 1/2 in the December Cup polo tournament at the Lahore polo Club ground on Wednesday.

In another match of the day, Hasan Jafar scored four goals to help Borjan beat Olympia 8-4 1/2.

Guard Filter had an advantage of half-a-goal on handicap and could put in two goals during play. Both these goals were scored by Malik Atif Yar Tiwana by efficiently converting 30 yards penalty-hits during first chukker.

However, the first goal of the match was scored by Omar Minhas for Merry Max on a field effort at beginning of this chukker. At conclusion of the first chukker, Guard Filter led 2 1/2-1. Unluckily, the Guard Filter side could not add any goal afterwards and faced ignominy of defeat.

Malik Asif Yar Tiwana scored on 40 yards penalty-hit at start of second chukker. Omar Minhas scored his second and the Marry Max team’s third goal, crowning a field effort. Asif scored his second and his team’s fourth goal to give Merry Max a lead of 4-2 1/2 at end of the second chukker.

Asif scored his third and the Merry Max team’s fifth goal with a long, lofted shot. Shahid Iqbal scored his only goal on a field effort and so did Taimur Mawaz Khan. At end of the third chukker, Merry Max led 7-2 1/2.

Only field goal of the fourth chukker was scored by Omar Minhas which was his third and the Merry Max side’s eighth goal.

The Olympia team had an advantage of one-and-a-half goals on handicap and scored three goals during play.

Aurangzeb Monnoo drew first blood for Olympia by scoring a field goal. Hasan Jafar put in first of his four goals for Borjan also on a field effort. At end of the first chukker, Olympia led 2 1/2-1.

Saqib Mawaz Khan scored a field goal for Borjan while Raja Sattar scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit for Olympia. At end of the second chukker, Olympia led 3 1/2-2.

All three goals of third chukker were scored by Borjan on field efforts. Hasan scored at beginning and near conclusion of the third chukker. Agha Murtaza scored Borjan’s fourth goal in between those two goals. Borjan gained a lead of 5-3 1/2.

Borjan dominated the fourth chukker as well by scoring three goals as against one put in by Olympia. Saqib Mawaz Khan scored his second and Borjan’s sixth goal on a field effort at beginning of fourth chukker. Raja Sattar converted a 30 yards penalty-hit for Olympia. Agha Murtaza scored his second and Borjan’s seventh goal on a field effort.

Hasan Jafar scored his fourth and Borjan’s eighth goal on a 40 yards penalty-hit to give his side a creditable win by 8-4 1/2.
