HYDERABAD, May 27: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on environment, Faisal Malik, has said violators of environmental rules will be prosecuted.
Speaking at the concluding session of an orientation workshop on Pakistan Environmental Protection Act 1997 for Sindh environmental magistrates here on Monday, Mr Malik said the government was committed to protect environment and would make the Environmental Protection Tribunal, Karachi, more active.
He said in accordance with the 1997 act, the first judicial magistrate of each district was nominated as environmental magistrate and two environmental tribunals, each comprising one senior high court judge and two technical members, were established in Karachi and Lahore to implement environmental laws.
He sought cooperation of judges and lawyers in enacting and implementing environmental rules.
Mr Malik said environmental magistrates had to play a major role, specially in implementing section 14 and 15 of the act.
