KARACHI, May 27: The main chapter of Pakistan Medical Association has called for action against all the faculty members, doctors and administrative staff of medical colleges who knowingly indulged in wrongdoing when some undeserving students were granted admission to the Sindh Medical College.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the PMA urged the provincial government and its ministers to uphold fairplay and merit in all matters concerning education.
The statement said: “The government should ensure measures against all those faculty members, doctors, administrative staff, and also parents of those students who inadvertently indulged in fraud, tampering of documents and violation of prevailing laws”.
The PMA also criticized the attitude of provincial ministers, government officials and some members of different NGOs who were endeavouring for reinstatement of the suspended students of Sindh Medical College.
It said the government ministers by reverting to these moves had made it clear that the traits of honesty and fairplay were a curse and all those students who were not admitted because of their honesty were fools.
“Health departments of all provinces should strictly follow merit criteria during admissions in medical colleges and paramedical schools,” said the PMA’s statement.
“It is time that the government and its ministers show that merit and honesty is the only policy of the government as far as education is concerned.”
