SRINAGAR, May 23: Indian troops overnight killed two more freedom fighters near the Line of Control taking the toll in the ambush to 14, officials said on Friday.

Indian troops killed 12 rebels early Thursday in the Indian side’s northwestern district of Kupwara. Two more militants were killed in the same area of Tootmargali overnight, Indian army spokesman Col Mukhtar Singh told AFP.

“With the killing of 14 militants the army has foiled a major attempt by rebels to cross into our territory,” he said, adding Indian troops were still searching the spot.

“It was a big group, and troops are looking for other militants in the area,” he said.—AFP
