KARACHI, May 20: Over 600 tonnes of garbage was removed from Malir and Jamshed towns by the eighth day of the 15-day-long city-wide cleanliness drive.

In Malir Town, more than 400 tonnes of solid waste was hauled away from areas, including the Malir halt, Model Colony, Khokhrapar and Saudabad.

The Nazim of Malir Town, Azam Ali, visited different areas of the town and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the cleanliness drive.

Meanwhile, in Jamshed Town, more than 200 tonnes of garbage was removed from the area while the streets and roads were also cleaned. Garbage bins were installed at various places to keep the streets and roads clean.

The Town officials visited the area and warned the sanitary staff against slackness, saying that inefficiency would not be tolerated.

He also urged the people of the area to cooperate in this regard and maintain cleanliness in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, at least 200 manholes had been cleaned by the drainage department of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board in towns including in Jamshed, Saddar, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Malir and Shah Faisal.—PPI
