KARACHI, May 20: An additional district and sessions court of Malir issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of top leaders of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in a murder case.
The case pertained to the killing of driver Kafil Uddin and wounding of his passenger, Rafiqun Nisa, in a firing incident in July last year within the limits of the Malir City police.
Younus Khan, a leader of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) and party’s only MPA in Sindh Assembly, was arrested on Dec 10, last year in this case.
According to the charge-sheet, a Haqiqi worker, Babar alias Babri, was arrested for killing the cab driver. During interrogation, he disclosed to have committed the offence on the insistence of the party’s top leadership.
The court issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed and secretary general Amir Khan, Imtiaz Koti and Danish and ordered to produce them before the court on May 29.
The process-server, who was assigned to track down the absconding accused, submitted before the court that the whereabouts of the accused could not be ascertained as they were not available at their respective houses.
ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge of Central acquitted on Tuesday four workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a murder case.
The four Muttahida men, who included the sector in charge in New Golimar, were prosecuted for the murder of an unknown man in 1995 in Gulbahar.
The judge exonerated the accused for want of incriminating evidence. The investigation officer, DSP Chaudhry Aslam, did not appear before the court for his deposition despite repeated notices.
The district and sessions judge, South, Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan, acquitted Shoaib Khan, a local businessman, in a case pertaining to possession of unlicensed weapons.
The businessman was tried for possessing a Kalashnikov, two repeaters and double-barrel rifle, which, according to the police, were seized during a raid on his house in Clifton in Darakhshan police limits.
The judge acquitted Shoaib Khan as the prosecution could not establish its case.
FINED: The federal anti-corruption judge, Muneer ahmed Khawaja, imposed a fine of Rs40,000 on a man, who had attempted to travel to London on forged documents.
Shahid Mehboob was deported to Karachi by the immigration authorities at Dubai after he was found carrying forged travelling documents.
He will have to undergo a six-month term of rigorous imprisonment in case of default on the payment.
CONVICTED: Judge Syed Ikram Hussain Jaffery of the special court for banking offences, sentenced a forger to a two- year term with a fine of Rs1.45 million.
Mohammed Riyaz was arrested red-handed on Oct 24 while trying to withdraw a forged cheque of Rs675,000 from an MCB branch at West Wharf.
The judge also ordered that the forger would have to undergo an additional one-year term in case of default on the payment.
