KARACHI, May 9: The city government has decided to approach the Sindh government in order to find a way to overcoming its financial difficulties.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, and attended by town Nazims and EDOs, here on Thursday.
The town Nazims would meet the high-ups of Sindh government to demand prompt transfer of funds to town administrations, so that development projects could be completed within the stipulated time and the city government employees could be given salaries on time.
The meeting was told that work on the Northern Bypass was continuing at a brisk pace. A meeting of town Nazims with the officers of National Highway Authority would be arranged to remove impediments in the construction of the bypass and the Lyari Expressway.
Bachat Bazaars would be allowed only on Sundays from July, and parks and grounds would not be used for these bazaars, the meeting decided.
A committee was formed to resolve the problems of hawkers comprising Nazims of Gulberg, Liaqautabad, Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Nazimabad and Shah Faisal, and DCO city government and EDO (Revenue).
A scheme to provide low-cost plots to hawkers will also be initiated, the meeting decided and formed a committee comprising Nazims of Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gadap and Baldia, and EDOs of Works, Revenue and Master Plan, to review the prospects of the scheme. The committee will submit its report to the city Nazim.
A team of city government will compile a report in collaboration with Aga Khan Foundation about the increase in Hepatitis-B cases in Bin Qasim, Gadap and Kemari towns.
A campaign will be launched against water hydrants which had taken illegal connection from the KWSB lines, the meeting decided. The cooperation of the board’s officers will be sought in this behalf.
The cottage industry’s affairs will be looked into by a committee which includes Nazims of Baldia and Landhi and EDO (Revenue).
A committee for reviewing the matters of Lyari Development Project and Malir Development Project was also formed. Nazims of Bin Qasim, Gadap and Lyari towns and project director of Lyari Expressway are its members.
The city Nazim would send letters to heads of KESC, SSGC and telephone departments for receipt of road cutting fees from these departments.
For sorting out the financial affairs between the KESC and the city government, a committee comprising Naib Nazims of Gulshan Iqbal and Gulberg and EDOs of Finance and Revenue was also formed.
It was decided that silencers approved by EPA would be installed in rickshaws. The rickshaw owners would be given appropriate time for doing so.
The co-ordination committee expressed its concern over reports that the KWSB and KBCA were making their separate budgets. A committee headed by City Nazim was formed to review this matter. — PPI
