HYDERABAD, May 7: The Naib Nazim and councillors of union council Dad Jarwar, Tando Allahyar Taluka, have accused the union council Nazim of corruption, embezzlement of funds and nepotism in the development schemes and threatened to move a no-confidence motion against him.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Wednesday, the Naib Nazim of the union council, Haji Ghulam Ali Leghari, councillors Mohammad Siddique Lund, Haji Rasool Bux Lund, Mohammad Haroon Bozdar and Abdul Sattar Bozdar alleged that the Nazim of union council No10, Dad Jarwar, Tando Allahyar Taluka, Nabi Bux Lund, was trying to destroy the union council.

They said that the union council had received sizable funds for the development schemes but the Nazim was spending the development funds according to his will.

They said that the members of the union council including the Naib Nazim were never taken into confidence about the development schemes or the utilization of funds.

They alleged that he had given the additional charge of the secretary of the union council to Haider Lund, who was his relative, and, in fact, the secretary of union council Piyaro Lund to misappropriate the funds without any objection from anyone.

They said that the secretary wrote the minutes of the monthly meetings according to his own perceptions by distorting the facts.

They claimed that the Nazim had failed to float tenders for construction of bridges on the watercourses, and added that the contract of bridges had also been given to the favourites of the Nazim.

They further charged that only those roads were constructed which led to the houses of the Nazim’s brothers and lands. They said substandard material was being used on the development schemes at a high cost.

They said that the funds were being misused, and added that unconcerned people were invited to attend the council meetings, and any councillor who demanded the details about the development schemes and funds was threatened with dire consequences.

They pledged to table a no-confidence motion against the Nazim.

They called upon the authorities concerned to seize the account books and freeze the bank account of the union council and order an enquiry against the alleged corrupt practices of the Nazim.

They said they had already sent complaints in writing to the Provincial Local Bodies Commission Karachi and Minister of Local Government for taking the necessary action.

They said that despite repeated inquiries the Nazim had never informed the council members about the funds.
