KARACHI, April 12: Pakistan People’s Party has decided to launch a massive mobilization campaign against mounting lawlessness and unemployment, rising cost of utilities and the proposed construction the greater Thar canal.

The decision was taken at meeting of the PPP Sindh’s executive committee on Saturday during which the government’s alleged apathy was deplored.

The meeting, held at Bilawal House, was chaired by the party’s provincial chief, Mr Nisar Khuhro, and attended, among others, by Senator Raza Rabbani, Syed Naved Qamar, Manzoor Wassan, Yusuf Talpur, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Aftab Shaban Mirani and Pir Aftab Shah Jilani.

The meeting deplored continuation of work on the greater Thar canal project which was rejected by the provincial assembly unanimously as ‘detrimental to Sindh’s interest’. The meeting attributed the failure to stop work on the project to the negligence of the provincial government.

It also expressed concern over the growing trend of suicides by unemployed graduates. Criticizing the government’s failure in addressing this problem effectively, the meeting called for an immediate lifting of the ban on employment.

Mr Khuhro, who is also leader of the opposition in the provincial assembly, condemned in strong terms the raids for the arrest of the PPP office-bearers in Ghotki and termed it ‘personal vendetta’.
