KHAIRPUR, April 9: Members of the Primary Teachers’ Association and the Masjid School Teachers’ Association on Wednesday took out a rally to press the authorities for removal of the assistant district officers, education, Thari Mirwah and Gambat.

Protesters began marching from the Phool Bagh and continued to amble through the Panj Gulla Chowk, the Mall Road and the Kutchehry Road and blocked the traffic at the NBP Chowk.

The protesting teachers were demanding the removal of ADOE (female), Thari Mirwah, Razia Khatoon Khaskheli, and the ADOE (male), Gambat, Abdul Latif Mari.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the teachers’ associations accused the officials of the education department of harassing teachers by way of illegal transfers and other means.

Referring to the grant of the GP fund, they said that clerks at the district accounts office were not passing bills in this regard without taking bribes.

Speakers also criticized the behaviour of the district Nazim, saying that she was favouring these officers.

The protesters later observed a sit-in outside the local press club.

They also went to the DCO’s office and presented him with their demands.

TEACHERS: A number of women primary teachers from the Thari Mirwah taluka resigned from their membership of the Primary Teachers’ Association and announced to join the Mehran Primary Teachers’ Association citing the incident of March 17.

On that date, the incharge ADOE, Thari Mirwah, was reportedly attacked along with three other lady teachers.

They accused the PTA of not having taken any action in this regard.

PROMOTED: The IGP, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, has promoted three police officials of the Khairpur district, namely Abdul Qadir Memon, Gul Muhammad Maitlo and Ali Akbar Shah.

Their cases were recommended for promotion by the then SSP, Khairpur, Ghulam Nabi Memon, for their performance during the encounter with the gang of bandit “Major” Narejo alias Jumo.

“Major” Narejo was killed in the encounter and three of his accomplices, namely Rasool Bakhsh Narejo, Ghulam Nabi and Karam alias Koro Narejo, were arrested.

MAN KILLED: A man was strangled to death in his house in a village near Kot Lalu, Faiz Ganj police station jurisdiction, here on Tuesday night.

The man, Mansha Mughal, 50, was reportedly killed over a money dispute.

Salim, the son of the deceased, has lodged an FIR against Mohammad Aqeel.

TWO GROWERS KIDNAPPED: Two growers, Ali Khan and Ghaus Bux Wistro, were kidnapped from the fields near the Wistro village on Tuesday.

Both the growers were irrigating their land when some armed men arrived and kidnapped both of them.

No case had been registered till the filing of this report.

US CONDEMNED: The District Council, Khairpur, through a resolution has unanimously condemned the US attack on Iraq and offered Fateha for those who died in the war.

The meeting was held on Tuesday.
