SARASOTA (Florida), April 7: Second seed Anastasia Myskina of Russia captured her second title of the year Sunday at the 140,000 dollar Sarasota Open claycourt event.
Myskina rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Australian qualifier Alicia Molik in the championship match. She earned $22,000 for her fourth career title.
The 21-year-old Russian arrived in Sarasota on a three-match losing streak, but rebounded to win five matches in a row for the second time this year.
Myskina had a six-match winning streak in February when she claimed the Qatar Women’s Open and reached the quarter-finals at Doha.
Myskina has continued the success she achieved last season. In 2002, she won one title and reached three finals to qualify for the season-ending championship for the first time in her career.
Despite the loss, Molik is enjoying her best year to date. She claimed her first career WTA title in January at Hobart and appeared in the fourth round at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami.—Reuters
