CHITRAL, March 30: The three government colleges here are facing shortage of teachers.
The problem has worsened recently as the teachers posted here from other districts hesitate in taking up their posts due to lack of facilities. They try to get their posting orders reversed.
A lecturer of history is teaching physics and a teacher of geography is working against the post of economics in the colleges.
In the city’s girls college, there are three teachers, including the principal, of the 35 sanctioned posts. The principal has to engage men to teach other subjects.
The college is also unable to offer admission in science subjects at degree level.
In these circumstances, people have to send their daughters to Peshawar and other cities after intermediate and many girls have to discontinue their studies.
In the boys college, more than half of the posts of teachers are vacant. A number of local lecturers have been posted in the college for subjects other than their specialization.
The boys college at Booni is also understaffed. It was upgraded to degree level six years ago, but science classes have not been started there.
Recently, the education department transferred six lecturers from Chitral and only one to the district.
