KARACHI, March 27: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal staged a protest demonstration against the US-led invasion at Karachi Press Club on Thursday.
The participants, mostly from religious schools, were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the US and its allies and were chanting slogans for an end to the war against Iraq and declaring the US an international terrorist.
Jamiat Ittehad-i-Ulema president Maulana Abdul Rauf, Qari Zameer Akhtar Mansoori, Maulana Ataur Rahman and Jamiat Talaba-i-Arabia Nazim Saifullah Ismail criticized the United Nations for not playing its role and said after the US invasion of Iraq the UN had become meaningless.
They described the United States president, George W. Bush, and the British prime minister, Tony Blair as “war criminals” and demanded of the United Nation to try them for crimes against humanity.
They urged the government to take a firm stand on the Iraq issue. They said that mere verbal condemnation of the United States was not enough.—PPI
