Published December 3, 2001

LAHORE, Dec 2: In order to review minimum wages for skilled and semi-skilled workers, the Punjab government has reconstituted the Punjab Minimum Wages Board, appointing 98 additional members representing both workers and employers from 49 trades.

This was stated by Punjab Labour Minister Muhammad Tariq here on Sunday. He said notifications in this regard had been issued and the board would help mitigate the sufferings of the working class in the wake of persistent inflation during the last three years.

The government had already enforced the minimum monthly wage of Rs2,500 for unskilled workers working in industrial units or at roadside workshops and commercial establishments. —Staff Reporter
