MARDAN, March 23: Lawyers community of Mardan took out a protest procession on Sunday to condemn the US attack on Iraq and demanded of the UN to put an immediate end to the miseries of the Iraqi people.

The procession, led by bar association president Taj Mohammad Khan, began from the courts and culminated at Pakistan Chowk, where it turned into a public meeting. Around 300 lawyers participated in the march, according to a statement on Sunday.

The demonstrators condemned the brutal attacks by the US-led forces on the Iraqi people and termed it a war against humanity.

Speaking on the occasion, Taj Mohammad Khan condemned the attack and said it was not only a challenge to the Muslim ummah but also to the civilized world.

He said the war had been launched not only to occupy the Arab peninsula but also with the intention to capture Iraqi oil fields, but, he warned, it would turn out to be a hell for the Americans and its allies.

Mr Khan appealed to the Muslim world to take a joint stand against the war-mongers, otherwise they would also face the same fate.

Meanwhile, secretary-general of PML-Q Salim Saifullah Khan has said those who predicted the next targets after Iraq would be Pakistan and Iran were living in a fool’s paradise.

He expressed these views while speaking at a meeting of party workers here. He said defence of the country was in strong hands and calling Pakistan and Iran next target was a poisonous propaganda to demoralize the nation.

He maintained that Pakistan was a nuclear power and targeting it would have disastrous effects.—Correspondent
