Aqeel and Asim in semifinals

ISLAMABAD, March 20: Top seed Aqeel Khan and Asim Shafik marched into the semifinals of the ET Memorial Invitational Tennis Tournament with straight sets victories at the PTF Complex on Thursday.

Also going through to the last four were Shahzad Khan and Shahzad Samad Khan, who also scored easy wins over their rivals.

Aqeel, showing excellent form knocked out Wasif Cheema 6-0, 6-0 and will now face Shahzad Khan, a 6-1, 6-1 winner against Mahir Nisar, in the semifinals Friday.

Asim Shafik outplayed Kamran Khalil 6-3, 6-1 to set up a pre- final clash with Shahzad Samad who downed Saeedul Haq by an identical scoreline.

Women’s top seed Mehvish Chishtie checked into the semis as did No 2 Zara Omer. Saba Aziz and Anoosha Aslam also advanced with easy wins over their respective rivals.

Tabish Raza, Changez Afridi, Jawad Gardezi and Zain Abbas qualified for the last four in the boys under-14 category.

Boys under-14: Tabish Raza bt Behram Wahid 6-0, 6-2, Changez Afridi bt Usama Ch. 6-3, 6-3, Jawad Gardezi bt Yousaf Ajam 6-3, 6-1, Zain Abbas bt Zain Haider 6-2, 6-3.
