Continuation of LG system stressed

GUJRANWALA, March 20: A workshop organized by the Punjab local government and Japan International Cooperative Agency stressed continuation of the local government system and devolution support programme to ensure the country’s prosperity.

The workshop was held at the office of District Coordination Officer Iftikhar Ahmad, here on Thursday.

The JICA representative, Ms Kaori Tanaka, said Japan was providing financial assistance to Pakistan for poverty alleviation. She said the progress of the country depend on the success of the local government system.

Local government Director-General Najam Ahmad Shah and executive district officers of Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Narowal and Gujranwala participated in the workshop.

EXPORTS TO KENYA: There is a great scope for mutual trade between Pakistan and Kenya.

This was stated here on Thursday by Pakistan’s commercial consular to Kenya Dr Sohail A. Safdar while speaking to exporters at an exhibition of ‘Made-in-Gujranwala’ products at the Ghulshan-i-Iqbal.

He said Pakistan could export cement, sugar and ghee plants besides wooden cutting machinery, rice and wheat to Kenya.

He said the Kenyan government was liberal and having good relation with foreign traders.

Dr Safdar offered the exporters warehouses in Kenya if they wished to display their industrial products there.

He said Pakistan’s products were very popular in Africa.
