LAHORE, March 20: The Lahore High Court Bar Association on Thursday called a strike today (Friday) to condemn the US attack on Iraq, and asked Prime Minister Mir Zafrullah Khan Jamali to cancel his visit to the US.

In its general house meeting, the LHCBA unanimously resolved that lawyers in the provincial metropolis would take out a rally on The Mall against the US aggression. A joint meeting of the Supreme Court Bar Association, LHCBA, the Lahore Bar Association and the Punjab Bar Council was convened on Friday to consider the latest situation in Iraq.

The LHCBA members requested the judges of all the four provincial high courts and law officers of subordinate judiciary to join their one-day strike, and not to dismiss the cases in default because of the strike.

The lawyers urged the government to deplore the US attack on Iraq and adopt a clear stance in the form of an official declaration. “The prime minister should cancel his visit to the US as a protest,” they reiterated.

LHCBA President Hafiz Abdul Rahman Ansari moved a resolution, urging people to boycott the products of the US and the UK. He banned sale of cold drinks of foreign companies on the LHC premises.

The Bar association resolved that the meeting of the Security Council be summoned without any delay and its members should stop the US from exerting military aggression on Iraq. The US, Israel and India should destroy their own weapons first before asking any other country to do so, the Bar said.
