Jamali’s visit to US put off

Published March 20, 2003

ISLAMABAD, March 19: In view of an imminent US-led attack on Iraq, Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali’s scheduled visit to the United States has been postponed, sources in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat told Dawn on Wednesday.

They said the prime minister would now visit the United States in mid April, hopefully after the situation normalized on the Iraq front.

Sources said the government neither wanted to hurt the sentiments of Muslims within the country and abroad by backing the US when it was waging a war against a Muslim country nor would it offend the superpower by wholeheartedly supporting Baghdad.
