DERA GHAZI KHAN, Dec 1: Two alleged drug addicts in custody died of police torture in the Muzaffargarh district during the last 24 hours.

City police had arrested four people — Asif, Iqbal, Shahbaz and Naseem — on the charge of possessing hashish during a general hold up on Friday night.

Naseem of Khangarh died in the lock-up on Friday night due to police torture while three others were shifted to the Saddar Hospital, Muzaffargarh. Iqbal of Muzaffargarh was later shifted to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, for his critical condition where he expired on Saturday morning.

The post-mortem report of Naseem gave out that he had died in an unconscious state with three torture marks on his body. His body was handed over to his relatives. The post-mortem of Iqbal, who died at the Nishtar Hospital, was being carried out till the filing of this report.

The rest of two captives alleged that police had severely tortured all of them due to which Naseem fell unconscious.

The people of Muzaffargarh also blocked Multan Road in protest against the police torture.

SSP Col Farman Ali told Dawn that senior civil judge Anwar Butt would conduct a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Naseem was laid to rest in his native town, Khangarh.

Relatives of Asif, Shahbaz and both the deceased persons alleged that police had crossed all limits of humanity just to extort money from the captives.

It is learnt that Naseem’s marriage was to be taken place after Eid.
