LAHORE, Dec 1: National Workers Party chief and eminent jurist Abid Hasan Minto has called for a genuine struggle for restoration of democracy in the country.

Mr Minto was speaking at a condolence meeting for labour leader Malik Muhammad Anwar on Saturday.

He said a true democratic order was needed to be reintroduced in Pakistan for putting it back on the rails and solving the common man’s problems.

He pleaded for a government to be established in the country which was a true representative of the working class and reflective of the aspirations of the people.

Mr Minto was of the view that trade unions in the country were almost non-existent and said the government imposed restrictions on trade unionism at will.

He regretted that the left-oriented groups of people in the country were scattered and lacked unity of thought and said if they became united, the country would be able to march on road to progress and prosperity.

Mr Minto, while referring to terrorism, said this menace in the world could not be eliminated only by eliminating Osama or Mullah Umar. With a view to achieving the objective, an international revolutionary movement would have to be launched, he concluded.
